Selah Theatre Project Premieres “Come From Away”
Winchester, VA – Selah Theatre Project is proud to announce the opening of their first community theatre musical Come From Away at The Vivienne L. Jackson Sanctuary for the Arts (VLJ), a new community arts center located at 302 N. Braddock Street in Winchester, Virginia. Come From Away by Irene Sankoff and David Hein is a powerful story of unexpected kindness, and community following the aftermath of 9/11. Directed by Bleu Do’zia, music directed by Amber Shayeb, and choreographed by Jason Conrad, Come From Away opens on September 11, 2026, marking the 25th anniversary of the tragedy that gripped the world. The production will run September 11-13 & September 18-20, 2026.
Come From Away is the inspiring, true story of 7,000 passengers stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, in the aftermath of September 11, 2001. When their planes were unexpectedly diverted, the passengers found themselves welcomed by a community of strangers who opened their homes, shared their food, and offered compassion during an extraordinary moment of uncertainty. With a powerful score, unforgettable characters, and a remarkable story of kindness, Come From Away celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the connections that can emerge in the most unexpected circumstances. Filled with humor, heart, and soaring music, this award-winning musical reminds us that even in the darkest moments, there is hope, and that strangers can become friends when we need one another most.
“As I near the possibility of no longer being as active in theatre, I am looking to do shows with purpose. This show has such a beautiful purpose” shared Joanne Thompson, actress playing Hannah, a character who has to reckon with the possible loss of her son while stranded in Gander, “It reminds us of humanity, and the good that happens when we come together and care for one another. I hope audiences will feel the compassion captured in this show.”
Tickets are $20 per person. This highly anticipated production is expected to sell out, pre-purchase is recommended.
