Main Street Masterpieces is a rotating window gallery program that transforms vacant storefronts into vibrant art displays. Curated by local artists and illuminated for nighttime viewing, each installation brings creativity and energy to Old Town while supporting our mission to make downtown more welcoming and engaging. QR codes at each display connect visitors to artist information and our community partners, turning empty spaces into opportunities for connection, storytelling, and inspiration.
I have felt the need to create for as long as I can remember. As a child I painted with tempera on long rolls of paper, discovering early the joy of color, movement, and expression. That passion led me to study Fine Art with a concentration in painting at James Madison University, followed by a Master’s degree in Art Therapy from Eastern Virginia Medical School.
After many years working as an outpatient counselor with adolescents and raising my three children, I returned to painting with renewed focus.
Exploring abstraction has opened a profoundly meaningful way of working for me. Without the constraints of realism, I approach the canvas with freedom and spontaneity, responding intuitively to what unfolds. My process is layered and fluid, at times spiritual. I rely on my formal training for the fundamentals, but I allow intuition to guide. I build layers, make choices, edit, obscure, and reveal. Each decision is part of the journey from chaos toward an intentional composition. I’m drawn to color, movement, and the play between transparency and opacity, which allows me to highlight the many layers of my paintings.

I’m a native Virginian, and have been drawing and painting most of my life. I earned a BA in Political Science and Art from Randolph Macon College in 1969, and a Masters in Painting and Drawing from American University in 1981. I had concentrated study with Evelyn Turner and professors Jack Witt and Ben Summerford. I have participated in group and individual art shows over time. I currently work from my private studio and art gallery in Lake Frederick, Va. I have focused on impressionistic and abstract still life and landscape subject matter over the past 7 years.
