SUMMARY:Fall Art Series
DESCRIPTION:The YDC is excited to welcome young artists back for our Fall Art Series\, a free program designed to inspire creativity\, confidence\, and imagination in children ages 6–12. \nLed by Allee Coffman\, Lead Art Teacher and Shenandoah University student\, this eight-week series will introduce participants to the exciting world of abstract art. Unlike traditional art classes\, abstract art encourages children to think beyond rules and expectations. It gives them the freedom to explore\, experiment\, make creative choices\, and express themselves without worrying about creating the “perfect” piece. Along the way\, they’ll build confidence\, strengthen problem-solving skills\, and discover that creativity looks different for everyone. \nClasses will be held Saturdays from 10:00–11:00 AM\, beginning September 12\, at the YDC. \nThanks to the generosity of our donors\, this program is completely free for participating families. Registration is required\, and space is limited\, so we encourage families to reserve their child’s spot early. \nCome create\, imagine\, and discover the joy of making art in a fun\, welcoming environment!

DESCRIPTION:Selah Theatre Project Premieres “Come From Away” \nWinchester\, VA – Selah Theatre Project is proud to announce the opening of their first community theatre musical Come From Away at The Vivienne L. Jackson Sanctuary for the Arts (VLJ)\, a new community arts center located at 302 N. Braddock Street in Winchester\, Virginia. Come From Away by Irene Sankoff and David Hein is a powerful story of unexpected kindness\, and community following the aftermath of 9/11. Directed by Bleu Do’zia\, music directed by Amber Shayeb\, and choreographed by Jason Conrad\, Come From Away opens on September 11\, 2026\, marking the 25th anniversary of the tragedy that gripped the world. The production will run September 11-13 & September 18-20\, 2026. \nCome From Away is the inspiring\, true story of 7\,000 passengers stranded in the small town of Gander\, Newfoundland\, in the aftermath of September 11\, 2001. When their planes were unexpectedly diverted\, the passengers found themselves welcomed by a community of strangers who opened their homes\, shared their food\, and offered compassion during an extraordinary moment of uncertainty. With a powerful score\, unforgettable characters\, and a remarkable story of kindness\, Come From Away celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the connections that can emerge in the most unexpected circumstances. Filled with humor\, heart\, and soaring music\, this award-winning musical reminds us that even in the darkest moments\, there is hope\, and that strangers can become friends when we need one another most.\n“As I near the possibility of no longer being as active in theatre\, I am looking to do shows with purpose.
